Check conditions, before you go boating!

We capture and broadcast actual bay conditions and on-water activity, LIVE to the computer user. Supported by easy access to our live Weather Bureau data feed, computer users can plan their on-water activity easily from a single and reliable data source.

So no longer will you have to hitch up the trailer and drive all the way to the launching ramp (through city traffic) only to find that the conditions aren't ideal with whitecaps present.

Ensure your better judgment and gut feel is no longer compromised, just because the kids are screaming and your guests all want to go boating!

Now,
just simply check the conditions on the computer from home or work, then decide what is the safest thing to do, before you decide to go.

An important decision made on factual information, not just a fingers-crossed guess and hope it's OK....  When in doubt, DO NOT GO BOATING. Remember the lives of you and your passenger's, depend on it...

The technology behind our Web Cam

Our Web Cam provides full colour LIVE images to your computer (or compatible phone) via a complex high-speed 20,000mbps and secure ADSL2 wireless network (pic right, antenna on left), back to our Boat Sales office. Sounds simple?

Actually it's very technical because in between, we convert the image stream into a digital signal then load onto a streaming server which is located at the base of the Lighthouse (from our friends at Coastalwatch) then loaded onto the Internet. All this data movement and conversion occurs within seconds, as the data stream (vision) is captured by our specialist Pelco camera, mounted on the top of Lighthouse 60ft above the water (pic right, camera on right) at St Kilda Marina, where our Web Cam is permanently situated.

Our Web Cam experience is truly-engaging, giving users the unique ability to view the top-end of Port Phillip Bay as our camera automatically sweeps on our selected, pre-programmed path for which we can change at our choosing.

Coastalwatch is committed to bringing the coast to you. Since its inception in 1998, Coastalwatch has been providing live vision, daily surf reports and forecasts, along with extensive historical swell referencing and engaging editorial; becoming the most comprehensive coastal reference site in Australia.

CoastalCOMS - Our Coastal Conditions Monitoring System is now producing some tangible benfits for Coastal NRM and through our establishment of an Office in mainland USA, CoastalCOMS is now active overseas. Using our vast camera network, CoastalCOMS provides vital real-time data on beach erosion, risk and surf quality for councils and governments as well as a safety tool for lifeguard and rescue services

Coastalwatch is a philanthropic community focused commercial organisation that supports community groups and charities such as Surfrider Foundation Australia, SurfAid International, Surf Life Saving Australia and numerous Volunteer Rescue Organisations.
