Riviera lay-offs, in response to tough times

Riviera Boats, Australia's largest manufacturer and exporter, today made redundant 136 employees across the board, following a downturn in revenue and the impact from the industry-wide slump.

In a statement, the company attributes the lay offs to a forecast 14% drop in revenue for the next financial year (2008/9). It maintains that Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May is still its primary focus, occupying greater space than ever before, and that the new model launches slated for this year and next will proceed. The launch of the much-anticipated 70' 'is still on track for Sydney International Boat Show'.

Riviera Media manager, Denby Browning, emphasised that the company is just as 'strong, stable and safe' as it ever was and more than 950 workers are still employed at the Coomera complex, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

'It's more a reflection of the industry in general. Riviera is not exempt from the pressures.'
