Refuelling - Read Our Safety Warning

The press have reported that the fuel dock at Pier 35 is still closed pending Forensic and Coroner's investigation. The re-opening of the Pier 35 fuel dock may in fact, be some weeks away. Currently, debris is being recovered from the Yarra Rver bed and pieced together, whilst the fuel bowsers, that were significantly damaged by the explosion are replaced. We together with Victorian Premier, Marine Safety Victoria and the Boating Industry Association Victoria (BIA), are keen for the formal investigation to conclude and deliver its findings on the causes of Saturday's vessel explosion. A horrible boating tragedy that killed 2 people and left 4 others in hospital.

In the interests of safe boating for all, please read the attached Refuelling Safety Warning (Acrobat .pdf) created simply, as a reminder that Vessel Refuelling Is Dangerous and their are some precautions Skippers and vessel occupants can take, to minimize any potential risk.

At St Kilda Marina's fuel dock, it is vitally important that all signage and instructions that are located in the fuel precinct (next to the bowsers, on the card swipe and surrounds) is read, understood and followed. This information is supplied for your safety and education.

If you wish, please print out our Refuelling Safety Warning and carry on your vessel at all times to be reviewed periodically and prior to any vessel refuelling.

Remember, if you are unsure or hesitant about using the equipment at the fuel dock, please ask Andrew at our Service Centre or another experienced/competent mariner for assistance. I'm sure, they will gladly show you how to refuel your vessel....

The safety of your crew, your passengers and yourself -  depends on it.

Safe Boating Always,
