Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) has taken moves to authorise its members under their new accreditation program; in return, raising the industry standards of safety for the general public.
The success of the program can be seen in the recent accreditation of their second boat dealer, St Kilda Boat Sales. Darren Finkelstein, Dealer Principal of the business is a long term member of the Boating Industry Association of Victoria.
Darren’s passion for the marine and boating industry can be seen through his commitment to preside on the BIAV’s board of management. He represents the boat dealer’s category.
When asked why he applied to be a BIA Victoria Accredited Dealer, Darren said the following: “BIAV Dealer Accreditation is significant for several reasons. Firstly, it is important for the marine industry to show leadership and direction. I believe self-regulation, is the ideal vehicle”.

“Secondly, accreditation provides a universal set of standards, guidelines and processes for businesses to follow. The uniformity of standards are purely focused on delivering a higher level of customer service, a safer boating experience and therefore delivers a better customer experience. That’s good for everyone”!
“I welcome the opportunity to be an Accredited Dealer and I urge the rest of the industry to put up their hands for accreditation as well. This will ultimately raise levels of customer service, which is great for the health of the boating industry in Victoria”.
The success of being a BIA Victorian member can be seen as Darren sold the largest boat on display at this year’s Melbourne Boat Show. The owner of the boat also chose to moor the vessel at St Kilda Marina, due to the security a BIA member brings & the close proximity to the Bay.
All elements of BIAV’s strict accreditation process must be met, in order to achieve the title of being a BIA Victoria Accredited Dealer. The benefit of this for people is that they can have peace of mind when buying their boat, in knowing that they have the support not only of the dealer/broker, but of the nationally recognised body for the boating industry.
Being an accredited dealer demonstrates to government and consumers that your business operates at the highest standards.
