Cruisy Night Ends On The Rocks

TWO men had to be rescued from a luxury motorboat that became grounded on a St Kilda breakwater early yesterday.

It is alleged the drunk driver of the 11m boat didn't see the navigation pole and launched the vessel into the rocks.

A 36-year-old man was knocked unconscious during the ordeal, while the driver had to make an emergency call for help.

A police spokeswoman said members of the Water Police responded to the call from their base in nearby Williamstown shortly after 4am.

They helped both men off the boat before breath testing the driver.

Police said he returned an initial blood-alcohol reading above .05 and charges are expected to be laid within days.

Many onlookers who saw the boat on top of the breakwater thought it was a result of the wild weather that has lashed the state.

Vessel Type: 1998 Riviera 36 - Powered by Twin Cummins 330hp Turbo Diesel Shaftdrives.
