Australian Builder's Plate (ABP)
The Australian Builder's Plate (ABP) has been developed by the National Marine Safety Committee through a joint initiative of Government and industry. It aims to make recreational boating safer by enhancing recreational boat user safety by clearly stating key vessel operational capabilities in an obvious location on the vessel. In Victoria, the implementation of the ABP Standard is a joint initiative of Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) and Marine Safety Victoria (MSV). MSV will be responsible for community and industry education and CAV will have primary responsibility for enforcement through the Fair Trading Act 1999, which provides that it is an offence to supply goods or services that do not comply with prescribed information standards.
