An Apprentice Marine Mechanic with motivation to learn and have a love of boating and engines!

WHO CAN - (not just prefferred, but essential) 

  • Learn under the hands-on guidance and assistance from our small team of senior and qualified Mechanics.
  • Enrol, Undertake and Complete the four years of necessary study that is required to fully-qualify as a Marine Mechanic

WANTED - Qualified Marine Mechanic

WE WANT!

  1x Qualified Marine Mechanic (maybe even 3-4th year apprentice) with industry experience and a proven track-record.

WHO CAN - (prefferred, but not essential)

  • Service Outboard Engines - Brands such as: Mercury, Yamaha and Honda
  • Service Mercruiser Sterndrives
  • Identify faults and problems using both your knowledge and the Mercury computerised diagnostics system
  • Understand the on-line Mercury and Mercruiser parts ordering system
  • Drive and Test boats on the water holding a current Boat Operators Licence

About Us:

St Kilda Boat Sales is a Victorian & Tasmanian Caribbean Runabout and Big Boat Dealer. Uniquely positioned and well-credentialed, as the only Caribbean dealer in Australia to market the entire Caribbean product range. Every model from 16ft trailerable Half Cabins and Runabouts, to the classic and timeless lines, of the Bertram inspired Flybridge Cruisers to 49ft. In addition, we offer quality, well-maintained used boats, most have low engine hours. Victorian boat owners are very fussy and given the geographic location of Melbourne, many have never been seriously fished. Well over 50% of our used boats sold, are to residents of; WA, QLD or NSW. Type of person

  • Self-Starter with Good Initiative - Who can and enjoys working alone without instruction (especially on cold winter afternoons, when no one is around the marina)
  • Indepenant - Our Boat Sales office is a one-person operation, so on the days and times you will be working - you'll be by yourself with no other assistance. In summer, you may have several group waiting for you.
  • Punctual - Who can open/close the office on-time and meet clients for set appointments at pre-arranged times
  • First-hand knowledge of boating - Who can talk specifically about fishing, cruising and general boating. Ideally, Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay, maybe Gippsland Lakes, Bermagui, Eden (preferred, but not essential)
  • Empathy and Understanding - Towards novice and first-time boaters re: Safety, General Concerns and Destination & Storage Questions
  • Professional Approach - In dealing with customers whom are buying expensive boats as luxury toys.
  • Appropriately Attired - When on duty in sutiable marine clothing and shoes.
  • Email and Internet savy - Who can comfortably and professionally email a customer a proposal or vessel inventory, who can also surf the net to research boats for sale on: www.boatpoint.com.au, www.boatsales.com.au, etc 

We’re looking for a responsible and passionate boating person to 

Run our Boat Sales office

  1. Answer phones, Email replies
  2. Handle sales enquiries for both new Caribbean Boats and Used Boats listed for sale (proposal, packages, inventory, brochures, inspections)
  3. Walk-in’s (proposal, packages, inventory, brochures,
  4. Vessel Inspections (no sea-trials required)
  5. Maintain a well-presented and accurate 'Sales Folder'
  6. Provide daily Emails of sales activity and lead-follow up

Sell Boats - Used Boats and New Boats  (Caribbean  16ft to 49ft) 

  1. No sales targets are issued, as it’s more important to answer buyers questions and assist with their enquiry.
  2. Boat Sales will come through building good credibility and trust with buyers and offering them a great deal!
  3. Create customer proposal, packages, inventory, brochures,
  4. Vessel inspections (no sea-trials or customer handover's required)

You’ll will be required to work on

  • Saturdays (except those refined as public holidays)
  • Boats Shows (Summer Boatshow February & Winter Boatshow July)
  • Occasionally mid-week (as required), typically when other staff is on annual leave (eg. mid-August 2012 for 2 weeks) 

Hours of Work

  • Saturdays: 9.00am – 5.00pm
  • Boat Shows: flexible times depending of the type of show, stand roster and weather
  • Mid-Week: 9.00am – 5.00pm (Monday to Friday) 

Rate of Pay

  • $150 per day (payable monthly, by bank transfer)      PLUS:
  • 1% of the sale price*  of a vessel sold i.e $100,000 sale = $1,000 commission (Payable at customer settlement)

* This is conditional upon the agreed vessel sale price being reached. Alternatively, a reduced commission rate may apply.

NOTE: You will not be expected to close sales on the day. Our experience suggests most sales take several weeks to evolve. All sales leads requiring follow-up that are passed onto to Darren Finkelstein and then closed (regardless of duration) means you WILL be entitled to a full commission. Typically you may sell between 6-12 boats per year.

Reports To

This position reports to Darren Finkelstein, Dealer Principal and Co-Owner.

Whilst Darren maybe on annual leave, the position reports to Andrew Rose, Co-Owner who runs our Service Centre business also located here at the marina. Both Darren and Andrew are Business Partners of both St Kilda Boat Sales and the St Kilda Boat Sales Service Centre.

Confidentiality and Solicitation

The Employee agrees to do all in his/her power to promote, develop and extend the business of the Employer.

The Employee shall not, except in the proper course of his/her duties, divulge to any person whomsoever any confidential information concerning the clientele, business or finances of the Employer or any of its dealings, transactions, or affairs which may come to his/her knowledge during or in the course of employment. Whilst you are an Employee, the Employee agrees NOT to work within the boating or marine industry and the St Kilda Marina complex for any other company or individual, or to approach and/or solicit for work, to all boat owners be it existing clientele of either: St Kilda Boat Sales Pty Ltd. or St Kilda Boat Sales Service Centre Pty Ltd. without the consent of the Management of the employer which should be in writing.

Smoking, drugs and alcohol are not permitted in any working area under any circumstances.
