Boat Sales (New & Used)

Business partners Andrew Rose and Darren Finkelstein continue to ride a wave of success at St Kilda Marina. Our Boat Sales and Service Centre businesses are thriving, because our objective is very simple.  We offer clients a full range of marine services - to ensure their boating experience is a pleasurable one.

With their expertise and experience nicely split between the two businesses, Andrew runs the Service Centre and Darren manages Boat Sales. A partnership some say, "made in heaven" and it's longevity and strength of partnership, is testament.

New Boat Sales

We're located at the famous St Kilda Marina in Melbourne, the true home of Caribbean Boats since the marina was opened on April 30, 1969 by the Spooner family, the founding (and current) owners of International Marine the makers of Caribbean Boats.

Fifty years on and some 50,000+ boats later, the third generation of Spooner's, still build Caribbean Boats today at their original Caribbean Gardens factory, in the Melbourne suburb of Scoresby and sold all over the world.

We are a Victorian & Tasmanian Caribbean Runabout and Big Boat dealer. Uniquely positioned and well credentialed. We are the only Caribbean dealer in Australia, to market the entire Caribbean product range, every model from 16ft trailerable Half Cabins and Runabouts, to the classic and timeless lines of the Bertram inspired Big Boat Flybridge Cruisers.

We have emerged as one of Australia’s premier, new and used boat dealerships and boutique brokerages. Both St Kilda Boat Sales and our Service Centre are proud and active members of the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA Vic) adhering to industry Code Of Practice and Ethics, at all times.

Used Boat Sales

We offer quality, well-maintained used boats, most have low engine hours. Victorian boat owners are very fussy and given the geographic location of Melbourne, many have never been seriously fished. Well over 50% of our used boats sold, are to residents of; WA, QLD or NSW. Interstate buyers just love Victorian registered used boats.

Known as Melbourne’s central on-water brokerage, offering both NEW Caribbean Big Boats and Trailerable Runabouts as well as all makes and sizes of quality USED boats. Brands include; Bertram, Caribbean, Riviera, Mariner, Maritimo Sea Ray, Sunrunner, Mustang, Four Winns, Quintrex, Streaker and Haines.

Our Company Slogan

In reading the customer profile of Richard Mollard (Reviews & Testimonials), don't you just admire his vision and ability to dream!!

We at St Kilda Boat Sales were so caught up in Richard's plans from 2006, when he first came into our office to talk boats and dreams.

Right from the beginning were so involved in the production of NAVIS II, Richard's Caribbean 40 Flybridge Cruiser, that we felt proud with a sense of acheivement that we were able to assist and make Richard's dreams come true, that we created the slogan for our business "Making Dreams Happen".

Our friendship with Richard is still as strong as ever, and our slogan we still use with pride today.

In late 2008 we trucked NAVIS II back to Melbourne from Cairns and in early 2009 NAVIS II we placed on the market and offered her for sale.

Ready for someone else to dream of adventure....

Our History linked to Caribbean

1958 - Arch Spooner founded the business as International Plastics and commenced operations with 6 employees at the current Scoresby address. Arch known as the father of Australian Boating, he was the first person to pursue fibreglass marine technology in Australia.

During the first year of production, the output was 85 boats and the factory was 4,500sq ft in size, compared to the size of today of some 50,000sq ft.

1960 - Arch Spooner negotiated and secured the license to build the UK Dorsett range of fibreglass boats at Scoresby. About this time, the Caribbean brand was introduced to identify International's range of smaller Runabouts.

1962 - Mercury Outboard Engines were imported into Australia & distributed for the first time by International Marine.

1963 - Granted exclusive manufacturing license to build the Bertram, range of Cruisers to be sold both locally in Australia and exported throughout the world.

1969 - The Spooner family development project of turning a swamp in the bayside Melbourne suburb of Elwood, into the now famous St Kilda Marina. The complex was finally completed and opened. Greg Spooner (Arch's son), is the current Managing Director of St Kilda Marina.

1970 - Columbia range of Yachts, designed and built by International Marine and introduced into the Australian market.

1971 - Barry Spooner (Arch's son) takes over management of International Marine.

1972 - Pride range of boats was taken over by International Marine.

Volunteer Coast Guard

Our Community Support Program was created in 2005, to assist in providing financial and mechanical assistance to non-profit organisations, who provide and encourage safe boating practises locally. It is with this philosophy in mind, that St Kilda Boat Sales and Service Centre has carefully selected the Volunteer Coast Guard to benefit from our program.

More specifically, we have a long association with the St Kilda flotilla which is based here at St Kilda Marina and provides resue, education and assistance to the boating community here in the top end of Port Phillip Bay.

Both of our businesses have donated much needed funds to the Coast Guard; particulary mechanical support, Cash Donations, Crane lifts (Slipping) and fuel rebates. We urge you to support the Coast Guard and congratulate them on a job well-done.

Web Cam @ St Kilda Marina

No longer will have to drive to the water's edge to check out the conditions before deciding whether or not to go boating. Now just log on from your office or home (interstate or overseas) to see the LIVE images, down here from the top of the Lighthouse, some 60ft above the water at St Kilda Marina.

Visit our Web Cam

You will notice, our Web Cam display's compass directions, so mariners can familiarise themselves with the sorrounds and better understand the wind and water effect on conditions, so as to increase their on-water safety.

This safety initiative, is proudly sponsored by Club Marine Insurance, Australia's largest pleasure craft insurer.

Suggestion: So why not save this page as your Homepage, Bookmark or Favorite?

How our Web Cam works

Our Web Cam provides full colour LIVE images to your computer (or compatible phone) via a complex high-speed & secure ADSL2 wireless network (pic right, antenna on left), back to our Boat Sales office then onto a streaming server from our friends at Swellnet, straight to the Internet. All of this data (vision) is captured from our specialist Pelco camera, mounted on the top of Lighthouse 60ft above the water (pic right, camera on right) at St Kilda Marina, where our Web Cam is permanently situated.

Our Web Cam experience is truly-engaging, giving users the unique ability to view the top-end of Port Phillip Bay as our camera automatically sweeps on a pre-programmed path.

We capture and broadcast actual bay conditions and on-water activity, LIVE to the computer user. Supported by easy access to our live Weather Bureau data feed, computer users can plan their on-water activity easily from a single and reliable data source.

Swellnet operates dozens of Web Cam (Surf Cam) installations around Australia, so streaming LIVE images and data is there area of expertise. Most Surf Life Saving Clubs around Australia, proudly have a Swellnet Surf Cam installed to beam LIVE data via the Internet, to the surfing communitiy.

Swellnet began in 1998, with Ben Matson's initial forecasts sent out to a small network by fax and email. This evolved into an online service in March 2002, and Swellnet forecasts are now contracted by many of the WCT competitions including the Quiksilver Pro (Gold Coast, Fiji, Japan and France), the Rip Curl Pro (Bells Beach) and the Billabong Pro (Teahupoo).
